Overall excellent choice for commuting or cruising
Tuesday, March 02, 2021
I chose this vehicle with retirement road trips in mind. I have the Limited trim level. The mileage is as claimed in the low to mid-thirties. Build quality is excellent as is the ride and road noise isolation. Several pro reviews comment on the noisy, unrefined 4 cylinder engine when the vehicle is pushed hard. It is annoying but not a deal buster for me. I found out the engine noise is from the secondary high pressure direct fuel injection system which activates when the accelerator is pressed hard. At cruising speeds, the primary fuel injection system is supplying most of the fuel into the intake manifold before the intake valves. Much quieter. The tech all works well and the vehicle has had zero defects or problems in the 3 months I've owned it.

First Hybrid Owned

I bought this Toyota Highlander Hybrid Platinum to replace a F150 since all I haul is sand bags for traction now. I believe gas mileage obviously based on terrain is close and I’ve got 31.6-34.7 just driving back and forth to work. The power is not like my 2019 Ford Explorer Platinum but I’m not a race car driver anyways. I find the seating and ride more comfortable than the Explorer, the quality seems excellent so far, the styling is sleek with quality leather throughout, reliability hopefully based on Toyota history, performance is good enough for American roads, and cheaper by $10,000 than my Ford Platinum...so I believe this to be an economically sound vehicle. Might buy another one so oil companies and politicians don’t get Rich!

This thing can get 39 miles per gallon
Sunday, April 11, 2021
Love this SUV. My husband and I are always in competition to see who gets better gas mileage. He beat me by a little he got 39 miles per gallon and I got 38. That is driving both city and highway miles in both trips. Very comfortable. Love the music the whole way around. I believe this is the best SUV I've ever had. I did own a GMC Acadia but this Highlander beats it hands down on gas mileage.
