Chevrolet replaced the unloved Cavalier model with the Cobalt. The two cars overlapped for the 2005 model year, the Cavalier’s last and the Cobalt’s first. Afterward, the Cobalt coupe and sedan served as Chevy’s compact cars. The Cobalt was superior to the Cavalier and even came in a racy SS trim level. The Cobalt SS was a noteworthy sport compact car, especially with its available supercharged engine. However, an overall lack of refinement and subpar interior materials did the Cobalt no favors. Ultimately, the design, the engineering, and the nameplate lasted only six years. Chevy replaced the Cobalt with the Cruze sedan for the 2011 model year.
