For 2024, the Volkswagen Atlas SUV lineup comes with more tech, more luxury features, and new styling but no fuel-sipping hybrid powertrain.

The Atlas will again be offered in a standard three-row version and a two-row, five-seat model with a sloping roof called the Atlas Cross Sport. Both variants adopt new front and rear styling, though the Atlas' body retains the same shape and dimensions as it did when it arrived for the 2018 model year.

2024 Volkswagen Atlas: More Features and Tech Come Standard

Even though it wears new styling, the Atlas saves its biggest changes for the inside. A 12.0-inch touchscreen protrudes from a revamped dashboard. Its infotainment system features standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, plus the Atlas includes six USB-C ports as standard fare. A 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster is framed by the steering wheel, too.

VW added a host of standard luxury features as well. All models now come with ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and voice control. Unlike some rivals such as the Toyota Highlander and Subaru Ascent, however, VW will charge extra for adaptive cruise control.

Quilted leather upholstery has been added to the top-tier trim levels, while VW says it will make leather seats more widely available for 2024. In 2023, it took stepping up to the $54,000-or-so Atlas SEL Premium R-Line to trade synthetic leather for the real stuff.

VW Atlas Power and Capability

VW has shelved the previously optional 3.6-liter V6 engine in favor of a new turbocharged four-cylinder rated at 269 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. The new engine's power output represents a big bump over the previously standard 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder's 235 horsepower, and VW says it will offer the same 5,000-pound towing capacity of the outgoing V6.

That sounds like a win-win, especially because VW estimates an improvement in fuel economy over the relatively thirsty V6's 20-mpg rating with front-wheel drive. Speaking of drive wheels, the Atlas will again come standard with front-wheel drive and offer all-wheel drive as an option. An eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters fitted to the steering wheel is standard.

Unlike the Toyota Highlander, the Atlas will not be available with a hybrid powertrain.

2024 Volkswagen Atlas Pricing

VW says it will announce pricing for the 2024 Atlas closer to its on-sale date during the third quarter of 2024. All that additional standard equipment may mean a bump above the 2023 model's $37,000 base price.

All vehicle pricing includes MSRP plus destination charges (set at the time of publication) and will be rounded to the nearest thousand.
